Treatment of Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Clare Edwards is able to provide natural looking treatments that can help smooth fine lines and relax facial wrinkles. These treatments, using Botox® and dermal fillers, can reduce and help prevent facial lines and wrinkles from appearing. The technique used is subtle, leaving a gentle natural appearance, the aim being that you look ‘refreshed’ without anyone knowing you’ve had anything done.
What can I expect?
Botox® is injected with a very fine needle into a number of sites on the face including frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. The treatment starts working gently after a period of 4 – 14 days, allowing a gradual and subtle improvement in fine lines and relaxation of wrinkles.
Our clients report “people keep commenting on how well I look” and “it makes me look fresher”.
“When I’m concentrating my frown lines make people think I’m angry – with Botox® my frown lines are so reduced that this doesn’t happen any more”
Dermal fillers are non-permanent gel like materials. A very small amount is injected into specific areas on the face which can enhance lips and cheeks, and reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Effects are subtle and natural looking.
Botox® and fillers are suitable for those people over 18 who would like to improve or prevent fine lines and skin creases, but are not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding ladies, or for those with certain muscular or medical conditions.
How does Botox® work?
By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The aging process causes the slowdown of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older, these areas of over-use become damaged and the lines become permanent. By reducing the movement of the muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. In the areas treated, the muscles are temporarily inactivated, during which time the patient can break the subconscious habit of overusing these muscles. Depending on each individual and the doses used, the response to treatment can vary from a relaxation of or an inability to move the muscles
Botox® has been used in medical treatments since the 1970’s and has been in cosmetic use since the 1990’s. Botox® is also successfully used to treat hyperhidrosis or excess sweating and we are able to provide this treatment at Park Street Dental Clinic. Hyperhidrosis treatments last up to 9 months.
Other conditions treated include treatment of a ‘gummy smile ‘.
Dermal fillers are injectable products which are used to help restore volume or fill in various lines around the face. Dermal fillers work instantly and last between 6 and 12 months, depending on the type used. At Park Street we adopt a ‘less is more’ approach, preferring a subtle natural look. We can always add more at a later date if required.
Dermal fillers are not permanent, and because the type of fillers that we use ( Juvederm range) are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body, they dissolve naturally over time.
How Long does it Last?
Effects of Botox® treatment can last up to 3 months, although in some individuals movement begins to return from 6 weeks onwards. Initially, frequent treatments are required to ‘re-educate’ the facial muscles. Thereafter treatments can be less frequent until a yearly maintenance treatment may be all that is required.
Ideally therefore, treatments should be initially spaced at 3 monthly intervals to obtain the best effects.
Dermal fillers last between 6 and 12 months, depending on the type of filler chosen. Treatment is always tailored to your individual needs. There is no minimum time between filler treatments.
