Keep Your Smile Merry and Bright This Christmas!

At this time of year, many of us dive into festive fun, celebrating with family, indulging in delicious treats and making special memories. But amid the season’s hustle and bustle, it’s easy to let a few things slide… like taking care of our teeth! We’re here to share a few tips to keep that smile sparkling all through December:

1. Beware Of Sugar Overload

Christmas treats are everywhere: from selection boxes and mince pies to Christmas pudding. While a bit of indulgence is well-deserved, remember that sugar is a main culprit in tooth decay. Try to enjoy these treats in moderation and if possible, save them for mealtimes rather than snacking throughout the day. This is because eating sugary treats with meals helps minimise damage, as the extra saliva during meals helps wash sugars away.

2. Don’t Forget Your Routine

The festive season can disrupt our routines, but don’t let brushing and flossing be one of the things that slip. Aim to brush twice a day for two minutes and floss daily.

3. Beware Of “Smile-Staining” Beverages

Mulled wine, tea, coffee and hot chocolate are Christmas favourites but they can lead to surface stains on your teeth. You can still enjoy your favourite drinks just remember to rinse with water afterwards.

4. Stay Hydrated

Winter air (and central heating) can lead to a dry mouth, which affects your oral health. Try to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Not only does it keep you hydrated but it also helps to wash away food particles and bacteria, keeping your mouth fresh and clean.

5. Plan A New Year Check-Up

If it’s been a while since your last visit, the new year is a great time to book a check-up. Starting the year with a healthy smile sets the tone for a bright 2025.

From everyone at Park Street Dental, we wish you a happy, healthy and very Merry Christmas!
